Krkonoše SPA

Designated as such under Decree of the Government of the Czech Republic No. 600/2004 Coll., dated 27 October 2004, this area of 40,907 ha includes the entire Krkonoše Mountains National Park and selected parts of its buffer zone. Seven species of birds are subject to protection locally, these being the black stork (Ciconia nigra), black grouse (Tetrao tetrix), corn crake (Crex crex), Tengmalm's owl (Aegolius funereus), black woodpecker (Dryocopus martius), red-spotted bluethroat (Luscinia svecica svecica) and red-breasted flycatcher (Ficedula parva). The aim of protecting the area in this way is to preserve the various natural habitats and ensure conditions for maintaining populations of such protected species.
