KRNAP Administration

Establishment of the Krkonoše National Park

The Krkonoše National Park (hereinafter referred to as KRNAP) was declared in 1963 by Government Decree No 41/1963 on the establishment of the Krkonoše National Park, on the basis of Act No 40/1956 Sb. The protected zone of the KRNAP was only subsequently declared by Government Decree No. 58/1986 Sb. on the protection zone of the Krkonoše National Park.

From 10/ 5/ 1991 to 1/ 6/ 2017, KRNAP, including the protected zone, was defined by Czech Government Decree No. 165/1991 Sb. of 20/ 3/ 1991, establishing the Krkonoše National Park and setting the conditions of its protection.

From 1/ 6/ 2017, the boundaries of KRNAP and its protected zone, including the objects of protection of the National Park, are defined in Annex 2 of Act No. 114/1992 Sb., on Nature and Landscape Protection, as amended (hereinafter referred to as the "Act on Nature and Landscape Protection"), in accordance with the government regulation.

The basic protective conditions of national parks in the form of prohibited activities are set out in Section 16 of the Act on Nature and Landscape Protection. The more detailed protection conditions of KRNAP, which take the form of activities subject to the consent of the nature protection authority, are contained in Section 16b of the same Act.

The protection of the National Park is also ensured by other legal institutes contained in the Act on Nature and Landscape Protection, e.g. binding determination of the protection regime of individual zones (Section 18a), designation of quiet areas (Section 17) or restrictions on the use of forests (Section 22, Section 22a) and agricultural land (Section 22b) within the area of the National Park. A National Park Council (Section 22) is established to discuss and review all important documents and to ensure public participation in the management of the National Park. The Management Principles (Section 38a) are the basic conceptual technical document of nature conservation, which determines the procedure and method of fulfilling the objectives of the national park and its mission.
